About
Houston Sun’s 7th Annual African American History Parade will be held in downtown Houston on Saturday, February 19, 2022, at 10 a.m. with Dr. L. Natalie, MD as the Grand Marshal. Her selection meets the moment of the 2022 theme as supplied by the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, the organization that was founded by the father of Negro History Week., D. Carter G. Woodson in 1915. This year’s theme is African American Health and Wellness.
The purpose of the parade is to bring African American History to a public audience and engage in public diversity by inviting the diverse groups of Houston to join in the parade and the audience. Following the Parade, we will present the Health and Wellness Symposium at Texas Southern University (TSU) along with the Essay and Art Contest winners at 12:30 p.m.
The Houston Sun Foundation is inviting the public to enter the parade and participate as a diverse audience who will enjoy and learn from the public cultural experience.
The Symposium allows individuals in the health field to discuss the theme, African American Health, and Wellness in a panel session. During the Symposium school children will present their Essays and Art. Winners will be presented with prizes and Parade Award Entries will be presented awards in the following categories. Marching and Walking Units, Marching Bands, Bicycles Groups, Community Service, Cheerleaders, Drill Teams, Classic Cars, Trucks, Floats, Animals, Clown, and Theme.

Our Vision
Members of the community regardless of race, color, ethnicity or culture are invited to the event to enjoy a well attended parade which includes noted community members, elected officials, community groups, school and church units, singing and dancing units, city service vehicles, and community members who have participated in the history of Houston Texas and surrounding areas.
